microsoft ole db provider for oracle problem

I am trying to set up a connection from a dataenvironment to an Oracle 7 database. I have created an entry in TNSNAMES.ORA with the Net8 Configuration Assistant and tested that entry from same tool - the connection works. The connection also works from SQLPLUS and I can use SQL on the tables no problem. Trouble is when I use the same connection data in the dataenvironment using the Microsoft Provider for Oracle I get 'Test connection failed because of an error in intializing provider. ORA-12154 : TNS could not resolve service name.' I dont understand as I have cut and pasted the service name directly from the TNSNAMES.ORA file and testing the connection using every other method works!

Probably you are using the wrong provider. Try to use this driver to connect to Oracle For the current Oracle ODBC Driver from Microsoft: oConn.Open "Driver={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle};" & _ "Server=OracleServer.world;" & _ "Uid=demo;" & _ "Pwd=demo;" For the older Oracle ODBC Driver from Microsoft: oConn.Open "Driver={Microsoft ODBC Driver for Oracle};" & _ "ConnectString=OracleServer.world;" & _ "Uid=demo;" & _ "Pwd=demo;" Iouri Boutchkine iouri@hotsheet.com

Hi I am getting same error. My OS is windows 2003 server, 32 bit. When I am trying to test the connection using the UDL tool I am getting the same error.. --------------------------- Microsoft Data Link Error --------------------------- Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Please help me.. provide me the solution..
